How Garden Centres Can Use Weather to Send Emails That Actually Drive Sales
Garden buying decisions are almost entirely driven by weather. Whether it's safe to plant, whether a frost is coming, whether the weekend looks warm enough to sort out the garden — your customers are already making these decisions based on the forecast.
Your email should be part of that moment. Not a generic Tuesday newsletter that goes to everyone on the list regardless of conditions.
Here's how to use live weather data in Klaviyo to trigger the right email at exactly the right time.
The properties Weather for Email adds to every Klaviyo profile
Once connected, Weather for Email syncs forecast data to each profile daily. The properties most useful for garden centre campaigns are:
wfe_forecast_min_temperature_c— the minimum temperature forecast over the next 3 days. Use this to detect frost risk.wfe_forecast_max_temperature_c— the maximum temperature forecast over the next 3 days. Use this to detect warm spell windows.wfe_current_weather_condition— current conditions:Snow,Heavy Snow,Rain,Sunny or Clear, and more.wfe_forecast_chance_of_snow— percentage chance of snow in the 3-day forecast.wfe_temperature_trend— whether temperatures are headingWarmer,Much_Warmer,Colder,Much_ColderorSimilarover the next 3 days.
These sit on each profile in Klaviyo exactly like any other custom property — ready to segment on, trigger flows from, and use in dynamic content blocks.

4 weather campaigns to set up
1. Frost alert
Build a segment where wfe_forecast_min_temperature_c is less than or equal to 2. When a customer enters that segment, trigger an email with frost protection content: fleece, cloches, tender plant advice.
This email is useful, not promotional. It arrives when the customer is already thinking about frost. Open rates are consistently higher than broadcast campaigns because the content matches the moment.
2. First warm spell of the year
The first genuinely warm weekend of spring is worth more than any planned promotional send. Set a trigger on wfe_forecast_max_temperature_c above 15°C combined with wfe_temperature_trend of Warmer or Much_Warmer. When a customer hits that segment for the first time in the season, fire your spring campaign: bedding plants, compost, seeds.
You can use Klaviyos flow controls to ensure each customer only enters this flow once per season.
3. End-of-season clearance
When wfe_temperature_trend flips to Colder or Much_Colder and the maximum drops below 12°C, it's time to clear summer stock — different dates for different parts of the country. One automated flow handles the whole list, firing at the right moment for each customer's location.
4. First snow
When wfe_current_weather_condition equals Snow or wfe_forecast_chance_of_snow is above 50%, trigger a winter prep campaign: mulching products, winter bulbs, garden gift ideas.
Why this matters more for garden centres than most
Take the UK for example, it doesn't have just one climate. A customer in Aberdeen and a customer in Cornwall have different last frost dates, different planting windows, different growing seasons. A single national "spring is here" email sent in mid-March is wrong for a significant portion of any UK garden centre list.
Weather-triggered email handles this automatically. Each customer is contacted based on what's actually happening where they are — no manual segmentation, no guesswork.
Outside of the economy, weather is the second-biggest driver of consumer behaviour according to the British Retail Consortium. For garden centres, it's the biggest.
