How to create a segment using weather forecast information in Klaviyo

Once you integrate Weatherforemail.com with your Klaviyo account, a number of different profile properties with weather data will start synchronising to your account. Every eligible profile in your account will have the weather forecast for their location stored as profile properties. The forecast is for the next 3 days and refreshed daily.

These profile properties will be updated every 24hrs according to your schedule. You can then use these weather profile properties to create segments in your Klaviyo account to send targeted email and SMS messages.

Below are some sample segments that can be created

Heavy Rain Expected

We will use the wfe_forecast_conditions profile property to see if there is any "Heavy Rain" forecast in the next 3 days. We can also use the wfe_forecast_chance_of_rain property to see if the likelihood of rain is at least 70%.

You could use this segment to target profiles with a flash sale on rain gear, umbrellas, waterproof electronics, or indoor activities.

Sudden Cold Weather Incoming

To create this segment, we can make use of the wfe_temperature_trend profile property, which is used to indicate the general trend of the weather forecast over the next 3 days. We can combine this with the wfe_forecast_min_temperature_f and wfe_forecast_max_temperature_f to indicate just how cold this cold spell is. Both temperatures in degrees degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit are available so you can choose the one that makes the most sense to you.

This segment could be used to push a “Cold Weather, Warm Deals” themed promotion.

Sudden Risk of Frost

We can create a segment of profiles who might suddenly be at risk of frost in their area. We can use the wfe_temperature_trend profile property to see if the weather is suddenly changing to be colder, and the wfe_forecast_conditions to check for clear skies which are ideal for frost. Lastly we can also add a rule to check wfe_forecast_min_temperature_f to see if the minimum temperature will drop below 35F.
